In The
Moment
What Is In The Moment Learning?
“Children are born with a natural desire to explore and learn and practitioners can support them in this. We do this by creating an enabling environment (both physical and emotional) and through the relationships and interactions that the children experience. We do not plan ahead, rather we remain “in the moment” with the children as they explore and learn. We observe carefully, and enhance the learning whenever we spot a “teachable moment”. Our observations, interactions and the outcomes are recorded afterwards.”
~ Anna Ephgrave ~
Anna Ephgrave has developed a unique and wonderful way of planning for and enhancing the learning of our children, through play, in the moment it is happening! In the moment planning allows practitioners more time to engage with the children, on their level, in their play and to scaffold, model and build on the child’s knowledge during these interactions.
Our practitioners are fully trained by Anna herself and see the value in this method of planning and interaction and the benefit it brings to the children we care for.
Each week we have focus children for whom we record as many teachable moments as possible during their time with us. This helps us to build a clear picture of their development, interests, abilities, and areas which need a little extra support. From here we can continue to plan for each individual child and use their interests and abilities to further their development.
Alongside these focus observations we also record daily WOW moments on our Nursery Pal app. These are snippets from the children’s day where they have achieved something for the first time, created something they are particularly proud of or learnt something new. A picture paints a thousand words as the saying goes, so we like to share as many as we can with you each day!
Working in partnership with our parents is of huge importance to us. We will regularly ask you to send in photos of your adventures at home, birthday celebrations or significant moments in your child’s life. We will then share these with the children or, if your child is a little older, they can share them with their own friends in their own way. We also encourage our parents to let us know if they have any concerns about their child’s development or anything they would like us to support when the child is with us.
We are always here to answer questions and offer extra support whenever it is needed.
